Search Eye came out in 1992 for arcades, developed by Arcade Studios. It was part of that wave of maze games that tried to do something a little different with the formula, focusing more on observation and memory than just speed. You control a small, nimble explorer tasked with finding hidden keys scattered across single-screen labyrinths. The main objective is to locate every key before a strict time limit runs out, which opens the exit to the next stage. Your primary tools are a short-range scan that briefly reveals items through walls and a dash move to quickly evade the patrolling guardians. The levels are deceptively simple; they often use visual tricks, like false walls or shifting tile patterns, to conceal objectives right in front of you. The pacing is tense, and the difficulty ramps up quickly as later mazes introduce more complex layouts and faster enemies. It feels like a constant race against your own memory and the relentless timer.
