Play Sensible World of Soccer ’96/’97 Online
Control your team, pass the ball, tackle opponents, and shoot for goals in this top-down soccer sim from 1996.
Sensible World of Soccer '96/'97 came out in 1996 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Renegade Software. It was a polished update of the earlier Sensible Soccer games, arriving at a time when DOS football sims were competing for attention with early 3D attempts. The game kept the top-down perspective that fans already loved, but with smoother controls and more detailed team data.
You control all eleven players on your chosen side, directing passes, making tackles, and taking shots on goal. The main objective is to outscore your opponent, whether in a single match or across a full season. Signature mechanics include the aftertouch system, which lets you bend shots or passes after you've kicked the ball, and the comprehensive management mode where you handle transfers, tactics, and squad morale. Matches are fast, almost frantic, and the difficulty can spike against smarter AI teams. It feels immediate and responsive, like you're directly influencing every move on the pitch.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
