Shackled came out in 1992 as an arcade game from Data East. It was part of that era where developers tried to mix puzzle and action ideas, often with quirky themes. You don't see many games like it now, but it had a certain charm that stood out among the usual shooters and fighters.
You control a line of prisoners chained together, moving them through maze-like screens filled with enemies and hazards. Your main goal is to guide the entire chain to the exit without losing anyone. You can drop grenades to clear paths or stun foes, and you collect keys and speed boosts to help you maneuver faster. The pacing is tense; one wrong move can tangle your chain or leave someone vulnerable. It feels frantic and a little absurd, trying to keep everyone together while everything tries to pull you apart.
