1988 Amiga action game construction kit. Design top-down shooters with customizable sprites, enemies, sound effects, and multi-level stages. Includes four demo games. No coding required.
Game Overview
Shoot 'Em-Up Construction Kit is basically a DIY toolbox for making your own Amiga shooters—no coding required. You get to draw sprites, tweak animations, and slap together levels with a surprisingly simple editor. At first, I thought it’d be clunky, but after messing around for a bit, I was surprised how quickly I could throw together a basic spaceship shooter.
The disk includes four pre-made games to show off what’s possible. "Slap and Tickle" is your standard space blaster, while "Outlaw" turns things into a cowboy shootout. "Transputer Man" feels like a frantic Robotron clone, and "Celebrity Squares" is… well, let’s just say it’s the weird one. They’re not masterpieces, but they’re fun little demos to pick apart.
If you ever wanted to design your own top-down shooter in the ‘90s but didn’t know assembly, this was your best shot. The editor’s a bit rough by today’s standards, but there’s something charming about its no-frills approach.
