Game Overview
Silent Service II puts you in the cramped control room of a WWII submarine, where every creak of the hull makes you second-guess whether you’ve been spotted. The sonar pings are unnervingly accurate—you’ll learn to hold your breath when a destroyer passes overhead. I started with the Gato-class sub, which felt like the right balance of speed and firepower, though I still managed to botch my first torpedo run on a cargo ship (turns out you need to account for the target’s movement, not just aim straight at it).
The Pacific theater is huge, and those tiny dots on the map? They’re actual warships—some you’ll want to avoid at all costs, others you’ll stalk for miles before lining up the perfect shot. The Yamato mission still gives me sweaty palms; that thing shrugs off torpedoes like they’re pebbles. Just don’t forget to check your oxygen levels unless you fancy a slow suffocation with your crew.
