Simon the Sorcerer is one of those classic point-and-click adventures that feels like it was made by someone who played too much Monkey Island and thought, "Yeah, but what if the hero was a sarcastic British kid?" You start off as Simon, an average boy who accidentally yeets a magic book onto the floor—because of course that’s how portals to fantasy worlds open—and suddenly you’re dodging goblins who really, really want to turn you into soup.

The puzzles are exactly what you’d expect: pick up everything that isn’t nailed down, combine weird items in ways that make no logical sense, and have absurd conversations with every character just to hear the jokes. And there are so many jokes. Simon’s a little smartass, constantly breaking the fourth wall or making fun of fairy tale tropes. The game never lets you die or get permanently stuck, which is nice because some of the solutions are… let’s say "creative."

What I love is how much freedom you get to wander around. The map keeps track of important spots so you don’t spend half your time backtracking, and you can juggle multiple puzzles at once when you inevitably get stuck on one. It’s got that perfect mix of charm, frustration, and humor that makes old-school adventures so memorable. Just don’t expect the dog to be much help.
