Ski or Die came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, developed and published by Konami. It was part of that wave of sports compilation games on the NES, where a single cartridge tried to cover a bunch of different activities, usually with a lot of personality and a little bit of chaos thrown in.
You control a generic athlete character through five distinct winter sport events, including downhill skiing, a halfpipe skateboarding section, and a snowmobile race. The main objective is simply to post the best score or fastest time you can in each event, trying to beat your own records or a friend's. Signature mechanics include navigating obstacle-laden courses, like avoiding trees and moose on the skis, and performing tricks in the halfpipe for points. The pacing is fast and the difficulty is often unforgiving, with controls that feel loose and require precise timing to master. It feels like a chaotic, sometimes frustrating, but always energetic party on a cartridge.
