Ski or Die came out in 1990 for MS-DOS, published by Electronic Arts. It was part of that wave of early 90s sports games that tried to do a little bit of everything, mixing arcade action with a weird sense of humor. You didn't just ski; you got a whole bizarre package of winter-themed challenges that felt both ambitious and completely ridiculous for its time.
You control a customizable skier through five distinct events, each with its own rules. The main goal is simply to post high scores across events like Downhill, Half Pipe, and Skiball. Signature mechanics include navigating obstacle-laden courses where timing jumps is crucial, performing tricks in the half-pipe for points, and in one memorable mode, outrunning an avalanche or a yeti. The pacing is frantic, and the difficulty spikes without much warning, especially in the later stages. It feels like a chaotic, slightly unfair party game that you keep playing just to see what absurd failure comes next.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
