Sky Shark on the NES is one of those games that grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go. You’re in a tiny fighter plane, and everything on the screen wants you dead—enemy planes dive at you, tanks fire from below, and turrets pop up out of nowhere. The first time I played, I lasted about 30 seconds before exploding in a satisfying pixelated fireball.
It’s brutally simple: dodge, shoot, repeat. No fancy upgrades, no story—just you against an entire army. The controls are tight, though, so when you die (and you will), it’s always your fault. If you’ve played 1942, this feels like its faster, meaner cousin. The music’s got that classic NES energy, too—all beeps and urgency, like it’s yelling at you to move faster.
Honestly, half the fun is seeing how far you can get before the screen fills with bullets. It’s pure arcade chaos, the kind of game you boot up when you just want to blow stuff up for 10 minutes. Just don’t be surprised when those 10 minutes turn into an hour.
