Game Overview

Smashing Drive came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, developed by Neko Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. It was one of those arcade-style racers that felt right at home on the GBA, a system that had plenty of top-down and isometric action games. It didn't try to be a sim; it was just a straightforward, chaotic driving experience.

You control a taxi driver trying to get fares to their destinations as fast as possible. The main goal is to earn tips by driving recklessly, hitting shortcuts, and causing as much property damage as you can along the way. Signature mechanics include drifting around corners to maintain speed, using turbo boosts for sudden bursts, and performing stunts like jumping over gaps or crashing through obstacles. The pacing is frantic, and the difficulty comes from navigating tight traffic while the cab literally falls apart from all the collisions. It feels like controlled mayhem, a satisfying rush of destruction and speed crammed into a handheld.
