Play Solomon's Key Online
NES puzzler where you create/destroy blocks as a wizard to reach keys while dodging enemies. Simple at first, then suddenly you're stuck on level 3 for an hour.
Solomon's Key came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, developed by Tecmo. It was one of those games that felt different from the straightforward platformers and action titles that were common at the time, offering a more deliberate, brain-teasing experience.
You control Dana, a wizard who must navigate a series of single-screen rooms. Your main goal is to find the key to the exit door in each level, but you'll also need to collect a certain number of fairies to unlock the final stage. The core mechanics involve creating and destroying blocks to build platforms, bridge gaps, and sometimes trap or crush enemies. The pacing is methodical; you often stop to analyze the entire screen before making a move. The difficulty ramps up sharply, demanding precise timing and spatial reasoning. It feels immensely satisfying when a complex solution finally clicks into place.
