Play Somari Online
A bootleg mashup where Sonic’s gameplay is reimagined in Mario-style NES platforming.
Somari is a 1994 Nintendo Entertainment System game, an unofficial release that blends two very different worlds. It was never an official Nintendo or Sega product, but it found its way into many collections through the unlicensed cartridge market of the mid-90s. The game takes the high-speed character of Sonic and places him inside a level structure and visual style that feels much closer to a Mario title, creating a strange but memorable hybrid.
You control Sonic, who runs, jumps, and spins through side-scrolling stages, though his movement is noticeably slower and heavier than in his native Sega games. The main goal is simply to reach the end of each stage, defeating enemies and avoiding environmental hazards along the way. Signature mechanics include collecting rings for protection and points, and a spin dash move that lets you build up speed on the spot. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, with precise jumps and enemy patterns to learn. It feels like playing a familiar character in an entirely foreign, slightly clunky world.
