Play Song Master (Japan) Online
Your party of bards battles monsters by shredding on lutes and flutes—it’s janky, charming, and somehow works. Just don’t expect to understand the menus unless you read Japanese.

Game Overview
Song Master is one of those obscure Super Famicom RPGs that never made it outside Japan—probably because it’s weirdly focused on music as a combat mechanic. You’ve got this party of bards and performers who fight by playing instruments, which sounds gimmicky but actually works better than you’d think. The spritework’s charming, though the menus are a nightmare if you don’t read Japanese.
It’s got that classic early-90s RPG jank: random encounters every three steps, confusing dungeon layouts, and a story that makes zero sense unless you’re fluent in kanji. Still, there’s something oddly satisfying about watching your harpist stun enemies with a sick lute solo. Yanoman clearly recycled some assets from their Aretha games, so if you’ve played those, the visuals will feel weirdly familiar.
Definitely more of a curiosity than a hidden gem, but worth a look if you’re into niche retro RPGs.
