A 1990 Amiga RPG set in a steampunk Victorian era. Players explore Earth and other planets, solve mysteries, and encounter lost civilizations. Based on the tabletop RPG by GDW.
Space 1889 is this weirdly charming RPG where you get to live out a Victorian sci-fi fantasy—think steam-powered spaceships, Martian cities, and expeditions to lost civilizations. The whole thing feels like Jules Verne and H.G. Wells got together to design a tabletop campaign, and honestly? It works.
You start off hopping between Earth’s hidden corners—digging through King Tut’s tomb one minute, then boarding a liftwood ship (yeah, Edison "invented" those) to bounce between planets the next. The pixel art’s got that classic Amiga vibe, and the writing leans hard into the era’s pulpy adventure tone. If you’ve played MegaTraveller, it’s got a similar feel, but with more top hats and ray guns.
It’s janky in places, but that’s part of the appeal—like finding an old penny dreadful tucked inside a textbook.
