A 1990 Amiga RPG set in a steampunk Victorian era. Players explore lost civilizations, travel between planets via airships, and uncover ancient mysteries. Based on a tabletop RPG with strategic gameplay elements.
Space 1889 is this weirdly charming RPG where you get to live out a Victorian sci-fi fantasy—like if Jules Verne and H.G. Wells designed a board game. You’ll hop between planets in wooden spaceships (because, sure, why not?) and poke around lost civilizations like Atlantis or King Tut’s tomb. The whole thing feels like someone took a steampunk novel and turned it into a turn-based adventure.
It’s got that old-school Amiga vibe, with pixelated explorers and clunky-but-endearing mechanics. If you’ve played MegaTraveller, it’ll feel familiar—just swap the sci-fi for top hats and brass telescopes. Half the fun is seeing how the game interprets "future tech" through a 19th-century lens (Edison’s Martian liftwood ships are a highlight).
Definitely niche, but if you love alternate history or tabletop RPGs, it’s a fun little time capsule.
