Spanky's Quest came out for the Game Boy in 1992, developed by Natsume. It was part of that wave of early portable games that tried to do something a little different, a little quirky, within the system's limitations. You don't see many games built entirely around bouncing a ball.

You control a monkey named Spanky who attacks by bouncing a ball; hitting enemies with it makes them turn into bubbles you can pop for ammunition or fruit. The goal is to find a key in each single-screen level to unlock the exit, all while avoiding enemies that respawn if you take too long. The main mechanics involve angling your bounces to hit foes above you or from a distance, and managing your limited bubble supply to keep your attack available. The pace is methodical, almost puzzle-like at times, and it can get quite difficult when screens fill up with aggressive enemies. It feels like a careful game of positioning and timing, where a misthrown bounce can leave you completely vulnerable.
