Spanky's Quest came out for the Game Boy in 1991, published by Natsume. It was one of those early platformers that tried something a little different, built around bouncing projectiles instead of just running and jumping. You don't see many games that play like it, even now.
You control a monkey named Spanky who has to climb a tower by clearing screen after screen of enemies. Your main weapon is a magic ball that you bounce; timing is everything. The ball grows larger with each bounce, and you have to let it get big enough to wipe out all the enemies on the screen before it disappears. The challenge comes from managing the ball's path while avoiding enemies yourself, and some later stages get pretty frantic. It feels satisfying to set up a perfect chain of bounces and clear a room in one shot.
