Top-down tactical shooter controlling a 4-man squad across 16 missions. Features 8 unique operatives with special skills, real-time combat, night vision, and persistent progression. Released 1992 for Amiga.
Game Overview
Special Forces_Disk1 is that classic Amiga sequel to Airborne Ranger where you lead a squad of four elite soldiers through chaotic, real-time top-down missions. It feels like Jagged Alliance if you stripped out the turn-based pacing and cranked up the arcade chaos—less careful planning, more frantic shooting and explosions.
You start by picking your team from eight specialists, each with different skills, and kitting them out. Pro tip: actually read the mission briefings, or you might end up in a jungle with no explosives when you needed to blow up a drug cartel’s base. The higher the difficulty, the sketchier your intel gets, so you’ll be creeping through dark maps (night vision turns everything eerie green) while enemies respawn and ammo runs low.
Missions range from laser-targeting airstrikes to hostage rescues, across icy terrorist hideouts and dense jungles. Your guys can earn promotions and medals if they survive, which helps—because let’s be honest, not everyone’s making it home. It’s messy, tense, and weirdly satisfying when you barely scrape through a mission with one guy left.
