Game Overview

Ever wanted to suplex a robot as Patrick or whip through Bikini Bottom with Sandy’s lasso? SpongeBob SquarePants and Friends Unite! on the GBA lets you do exactly that—along with all the usual underwater chaos you’d expect. Plankton’s up to his old tricks (shocking, I know), and it’s up to SpongeBob and the gang to stop him… again.

What’s fun is how each character plays totally differently. SpongeBob’s bubble attacks feel silly but weirdly effective, Sandy’s lasso makes her zip around like a cowboy in a diving suit, and Squidward—yeah, even he gets roped into this—has this grumpy little clarinet move that somehow works. The levels are packed with dumb little jokes and references from the show, like flipping Krabby Patties under pressure or dodging jellyfish in fields that look straight out of the cartoon.

It’s not the deepest game, but the animations are surprisingly lively for a GBA title, and the humor’s spot-on if you grew up with SpongeBob’s brand of nonsense. Just don’t expect Squidward to enjoy any of it.
