I picked up The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie for the Game Boy Advance back in 2004, a THQ release that came out alongside the film. It was a pretty standard licensed game for the time, the kind you'd expect to see on the GBA, with colorful graphics and straightforward platforming action. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it was a solid way to spend an afternoon if you were a fan of the show.
You control SpongeBob and Patrick, switching between them to use their unique abilities to navigate levels. The main goal is to retrieve King Neptune's stolen crown, which involves a lot of screen-by-screen exploration, jumping on platforms, and collecting spatulas to unlock new areas. You also get to drive the Patty Wagon in these on-rails shooting sections where you dodge obstacles and blast sandworms. The pacing is decent, though some jumps can be a bit finicky, and the difficulty feels just right for a younger audience. It feels like a faithful, if simple, trip through Bikini Bottom.
