Sports Pad Soccer came out for the Sega Master System in 1987, developed and published by Sega. It was one of the few games designed specifically for the Sports Pad trackball controller, a peripheral that tried to bring a more physical, arcade-like feel to home soccer games during a time when simple d-pad controls were the norm.

You control a team of blocky, 8-bit players, moving them around a small field viewed from an overhead perspective. The main objective is to outscore your opponent by getting the ball into their net. Using the trackball, you dribble by rolling the ball quickly, though movement feels stiff and deliberate. Shooting involves building momentum with the trackball before releasing; shots either fire like rockets past the goalkeeper or sail wildly off target. The game moves at a brisk pace, and matches are short but challenging due to the imprecise controls. It feels like a rough, experimental attempt to capture the speed of soccer through motion rather than buttons.
