Star Force came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, developed by Tehkan. It was one of those early NES shooters that felt right at home on the system, a straightforward vertical scroller without a lot of frills, just you against an overwhelming number of enemies.
You pilot a small ship that moves continuously upward, firing at geometric enemies that swarm in from all sides. Your main goal is simply to survive as long as possible, clearing waves of foes while dodging their patterned attacks. The game uses a screen by screen progression; each area must be cleared of all enemies before you can advance. Power-ups are scarce, and the difficulty ramps up quickly, demanding precise movement and memorization of enemy routes. It feels tense and demanding, a pure test of reflexes and patience.
