Play Star Wars - Shadows of the Empire (Europe) Online

Shadows of the Empire came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1996, developed by LucasArts. It was one of those early N64 titles that tried to stretch what the system could do, filling in a gap in the Star Wars story between Empire and Jedi. The game doesn't get talked about as much as some other releases from that era, but it had a presence.

You play as Dash Rendar, a mercenary working alongside the Rebellion. The goal is to help track down Han Solo after his capture, which means moving through a mix of on-foot combat, speeder bike chases, and space battles. Key mechanics include switching between first and third person views for different combat situations, piloting your ship, the Outrider, in free-flight segments, and using a jetpack for added mobility in certain levels. The difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially in some of the vehicle sections, but pushing through those challenges gives a real sense of accomplishment. It feels like a rough but earnest attempt to bring varied Star Wars action into a single game.
