Stargate on Game Boy came out in 1999 from Acclaim Entertainment, a time when licensed games were common and often simple puzzle adaptations. It didn't try to be an action adventure like many others; instead, it focused on a tile matching concept tied to the movie's premise.

You control a cursor to drop alien symbols into the Stargate, matching three or more of the same type to clear columns before they pile too high. The main goal is to prevent the stack from reaching the top of the screen, with each level demanding faster decisions and better pattern recognition. Two key mechanics include chaining combos by clearing multiple sets in quick succession, and a Battle Mode where you can send garbage blocks to an opponent's screen. The pacing is relentless in later stages, making it quite challenging to keep up. It feels tense but satisfying when you pull off a big clear and buy yourself some breathing room.
