Stargate on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System came out in 1995 from Probe Entertainment. It was part of that wave of mid-90s games based on movies, where you got to step into the boots of a familiar hero. The SNES library was full of platformers and action titles, and this one tried to capture the feel of the film with its own set of rules.
You control Colonel Jack O'Neil, moving through side-scrolling levels to rescue your team and stop Ra. The main goal is to find and activate the Stargate on each stage while fighting Jaffa warriors and avoiding traps. Key mechanics include switching between a standard rifle and a more powerful staff weapon, plus careful platforming over pits and spikes. The pacing is relentless, with constant enemy attacks and a timer counting down in the final level. It feels like a tense, sometimes unforgiving race against overwhelming odds.
