Pilot an attack helicopter, navigate enemy territory, destroy bases, escort convoys, and dodge missiles in Steel Talons for Sega Genesis.
Steel Talons came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, developed by Atari Games. It was part of that early wave of 16-bit action games that tried to push hardware limits with fast, detailed visuals. You don't see many helicopter shooters like this one anymore, especially ones that offered such a specific kind of challenge.
You control an attack helicopter, moving through enemy territory to complete missions like destroying bases or escorting convoys. The game uses a behind-the-craft perspective, and you're constantly tilting, rising, and diving to avoid incoming missiles and enemy fire. One standout feature is the two-player split-screen mode, where you and a friend can fly together (or crash into each other). The controls take some getting used to; they're not exactly smooth, which adds to the tension. Every successful dodge or precise rocket hit feels earned, and the screen fills with explosions and terrain details that were impressive for the time. It's a demanding, sometimes unforgiving game that makes you work for every bit of progress.
