Game Overview
Steel Talons was one of those arcade games that made you feel like a total badass the second you sat down in the cockpit-style cabinet. The Genesis port obviously couldn’t match the full experience, but it still nailed that tense, low-altitude helicopter chaos. You’ve got three missions—blowing up tanks, rescuing dudes, the usual—but the real fun was the deathmatch mode where you and a buddy could just go nuts trying to outmaneuver each other.
The controls take a minute to get used to (because, you know, helicopters don’t exactly handle like Mario), but once it clicks, weaving between buildings while missiles scream past your tail rotor is stupidly satisfying. Graphics were decent for the time, with some nice explosions and terrain details that made crashes feel appropriately dramatic. Not the deepest game out there, but perfect for short bursts of aerial mayhem.
