Strider II came out for the Sega Genesis in 1990, developed by Tiertex Design Studios. It was part of that wave of arcade-style action games that felt right at home on the system, offering a straightforward, fast-paced experience without a lot of the fluff you saw in other titles from the era.
You control Hiryu, a futuristic ninja, and your goal is to fight through a series of side-scrolling stages to defeat the evil Grandmaster. The gameplay is built around your plasma sword, which you use to cut down an endless supply of robotic enemies and mid-bosses. You're constantly moving screen by screen, navigating platforms and avoiding environmental hazards. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty can be punishing, especially during the larger boss encounters that demand quick reflexes. It feels like a test of pure timing and aggression, where every jump and slash has to be deliberate.
