Game Overview

Summon Night 3 was originally released in Japan for the PlayStation 2, but an unofficial English translation patch exists for the Game Boy Advance version, which is actually a separate, earlier title in the series. Developed by Flight-Plan and published by Banpresto, it arrived during a period when tactical RPGs were finding a solid, if niche, audience on handhelds.

You control a main character and a guardian beast you choose at the start, guiding them through grid-based battle maps and story-driven town segments. Your primary goal is to unravel a personal mystery tied to your origins, which involves navigating through monster-filled dungeons and engaging in turn-based combat. Key mechanics include building relationships with your summoned partner, whose abilities directly influence your tactics in fights, and managing a day/night cycle that affects which events and characters are available. The pacing is deliberate, with a moderate difficulty that encourages careful positioning over brute force. It feels like thoughtfully balancing strategy sessions with moments of character-driven downtime.
