Super Bases Loaded came out for the Super Nintendo in 1991, developed by Jaleco. It was one of the earlier baseball titles on the system, arriving at a time when sports games were still figuring out how to use the new hardware. It didn't have the flash of some later releases, but it had a straightforward approach that made it easy to pick up and play.
You control all the players on your chosen team, handling pitching, batting, and fielding directly. The main goal is to outscore your opponent over nine innings. The game uses a pitcher's perspective when you're at bat, which makes judging pitches a real challenge. Fielding is manual, so you have to run your players to the ball and make throws yourself, which leads to a lot of errors if you're not careful. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty can spike sharply depending on the team you face. It feels tense and a little unforgiving, especially when a missed catch turns a single into a triple.
