Cauldron II on the Amiga is one of those games that feels like a proper upgrade from the 8-bit days—still tough as nails, but with way more going on. You play as Zmira, a witch who’s lost her powers, and you’ve got to fight through four weirdly charming worlds to get them back. Each level’s split into these little chunks, which is nice because you don’t get overwhelmed right away.

The enemies—bats, trolls, snakes—aren’t just mindless either. They’ve got patterns, and worse, they’ll chase you off-screen if you’re not careful. The spells are where it gets fun though. You’ve got 12 of them, mapped to function keys (even though the manual hilariously insists you have F11 and F12, which… nope). Some give you better weapons (because the default one’s kinda weak), others summon staircases or melt metal barriers. Just don’t trust the water—sometimes it kills you, sometimes it warps you, and good luck telling which is which.

It’s got that old-school charm where you’ll die a lot, but somehow keep coming back anyway.
