Sword Master came out for the NES in 1992, developed and published by Athena. You play as a lone warrior on a quest to defeat an evil sorcerer, moving through a series of side scrolling and overhead areas.
You control a knight who explores castles, forests, and caves, fighting monsters with a sword and occasionally a bow. The main goal is to defeat bosses and collect key items to progress. The combat relies heavily on timing and positioning; you can sidestep attacks and counter with a thrust, and there's a high jump for avoiding low strikes. The game is methodical, not a button masher, and enemies hit hard if you rush. It feels deliberate and tense, demanding patience and precision in every encounter.
