Play Tecmo Secret of the Stars Online
You control two separate RPG parties—one tackling the main story, the other grinding dungeons—in this clunky but oddly charming SNES adventure. The combat's pure old-school Dragon Quest, complete with random battles and a bizarre late-game town-building twist.

Tecmo's Secret of the Stars came out for the Super Nintendo in 1995, a time when the console was packed with ambitious, sometimes experimental RPGs. It was developed and published by Tecmo, and it stands as one of those mid-tier releases that didn't get much attention but found a small audience anyway. The game fits right into that era of sprite-based exploration, offering a familiar yet slightly off-kilter take on the genre.
You control two distinct parties: the Aqutallions, who follow the main story, and the Kustera, who explore optional dungeons to gather resources. The main objective involves traveling across the world map, entering towns and caves, and fighting frequent random battles in a traditional turn-based system. One of the more unusual mechanics lets you switch between parties at certain points, using the Kustera to earn money and items that help the Aqutallions progress. The pacing is slow, partly due to a high encounter rate, and some sections feel grindy. Playing it feels like digging through an old box of forgotten games; there's a clunky sincerity to the whole experience.
