Game Overview

Tecmo Super Bowl hit the Sega Genesis in October 1993, a port of the NES game developed by Tecmo. It arrived late in the console's life, but it was the version many of us held onto for years. The game featured real NFL teams and players, which was a big deal at the time, and it ran smoothly on the Genesis hardware.

You control all eleven players on the field, calling offensive and defensive plays from a menu before each snap. The main objective is simple: outscore your opponent. Signature mechanics include the turbo button for a burst of speed and the ability to dive or jump to make tackles or break them. The pacing is fast, almost frantic, especially when a receiver breaks open downfield. It feels immediate and physical, like you're right in the middle of every collision and broken play.
