Terranigma came out for the Super Nintendo in 1996, developed by Quintet. It was one of those late SNES releases that really pushed what the system could do, with a sense of scale and detail that felt ambitious for its time.
You control Ark, a young boy tasked with literally bringing the world back to life. You explore screen by screen, using a spear for quick, combo-based combat against monsters, and solve environmental puzzles in multi-level dungeons. The pacing is deliberate; you spend a lot of time planting seeds to regrow continents, coaxing wildlife to return, and helping human civilization gradually re-emerge from nothing. It feels like you are personally responsible for every tree and every town that slowly dots the landscape.
