Game Overview

I picked up The Mummy for Game Boy Advance back when it came out, one of those licensed games that sometimes slipped under the radar. It was developed by Independent and released in 2000, fitting right into that early GBA era where action platformers were starting to find their footing on the handheld. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it had a certain charm and a clear sense of what it wanted to be.

You play as Rick O'Connell, moving through side scrolling levels filled with enemies like mummies and scarab beetles. Your main goal is to rescue Evelyn and stop Imhotep, using a whip for close combat and a pistol for ranged attacks. The game mixes exploration with light puzzle solving, often requiring you to find keys or trigger switches to progress. It's not overly long, but the difficulty can spike in later stages with tricky platforming and enemy placements. Playing it feels like a straightforward, sometimes challenging dive into a classic adventure movie.
