I first played The Real Ghostbusters in the arcade back in 1987. It was developed by Data East, and it fit right in with the other side-scrolling action games of the time. You could play alone or with a friend, and the cabinet had that familiar glow and noise that pulled you right in.
You control one of the Ghostbusters, moving through haunted buildings screen by screen. Your main goal is to clear each floor of ghosts by blasting them with your proton gun, then switching to capture mode to vacuum them up; if you forget to capture them, they just explode. Slimer zips around like a hyperactive bodyguard once you free him, and you can collect power-ups to improve your weapons and health. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty ramps up quickly, especially with multiple ghosts swarming the screen. It feels chaotic and satisfying when you finally clear a room.
