Times of Lore came out on the NES in 1989 from Origin Systems, a company better known for their computer RPGs. It was a time when action-adventure games were trying to blend exploration with more complex stories, and this was their take on that formula for the console.
You control a single hero, moving screen by screen through an overworld, towns, and dungeons. Your main goal is to find the scattered pieces of a magical amulet to stop an evil force. You'll fight monsters with a sword or a bow, manage a small inventory of keys and potions, and talk to villagers for clues. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, as you backtrack and figure out where to go next. It feels like a quiet, personal journey through a world that doesn't hold your hand.
