Toki came out on the Amiga in 1989, published by Ocean Software. It was a straightforward action platformer from a time when the Amiga was full of arcade conversions, and this one was a port of Taito's coin-op. You control a jungle warrior transformed into an ape, setting out on a simple quest to rescue his girlfriend from an evil wizard.

You guide Toki through six linear stages, spitting projectiles at a variety of enemies and hopping across platforms. The main goal is to survive each screen and defeat the boss waiting at the end of every level. You can collect power-ups that change your spit into more powerful fire breath or provide a temporary shield, and you'll also find items to restore health or add to your score. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty is consistent, demanding quick reflexes for some of the later jumps and enemy patterns. It feels like a solid, no-frills arcade experience translated to the home computer.
