Toki came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, developed by TAD Corporation. It was part of that era on the NES where arcade ports were common, and this one brought its own particular flavor of platforming action to the console. You don't see many games where the hero is a jungle warrior transformed into an ape, and it definitely stood out on the shelf.

You control the ape-formerly-known-as-Toki, moving from left to right through six distinct levels. Your main goal is to rescue your kidnapped girlfriend, Miho, from an evil witch doctor. Your primary method of attack is spitting projectiles at a surprising variety of enemies, from zombies and snakes to flying demons. The levels are broken into single-screen sections that you clear before moving on, and the pacing is relentless. It's known for being quite difficult, with precise jumps and constant enemy attacks demanding your full attention. Playing it feels like a constant, frantic scramble to survive.
