Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam on the Game Boy Advance came out in 2006, developed by Vicarious Visions. It was part of that late-era GBA lineup, a time when developers were still squeezing interesting ideas out of the hardware. This one took the Tony Hawk formula and sent it racing straight down a mountain.
You control a downhill skater, either Tony Hawk or one of several other characters, and your main goal is simple: get to the bottom of each course as fast as possible. The signature mechanics are all about maintaining speed and avoiding obstacles. You perform tricks by combining directional inputs with the shoulder buttons to build up a boost meter; using that boost at the right moment is crucial for winning. You also have to physically shove other racers out of your path and navigate through tight packs of pedestrians. The courses are short but demanding, filled with sharp turns, sudden drops, and branching paths that hide useful shortcuts. It feels frantic and fast, a constant battle against the clock and the terrain.
