Total Recall on the Amiga is one of those late '80s action-platformers that somehow nails the weird, gritty vibe of the movie. You play as Quaid (or, let’s be real, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s pixelated version) punching, shooting, and occasionally driving your way through seven levels of Mars conspiracy chaos.

The platforming bits feel like a mix of Contra and a brawler—ducking under gunfire, grabbing enemy weapons when you can, and just wailing on goons with your fists when you run out of ammo. The first level’s this weird scavenger hunt where you’re rummaging through a lab for keycards, and later you even switch control to Melina for a puzzle section. It’s janky in that classic Amiga way, but it works.

Then there are the driving levels—side-scrolling, high-speed chases where you’re weaving through traffic or just blowing cars up with mounted guns. The controls are stiff, but surviving long enough to reach the boss (usually some armored truck or hover thing) feels oddly satisfying. And yeah, there are cutscenes lifted straight from the movie, complete with that grainy VHS aesthetic.

It’s not the smoothest game, but if you’re into ‘80s sci-fi schlock and clunky-but-charming action, this one’s a trip.
