Game Overview

Triple Play '96 was one of those baseball games that actually felt like a step up from the usual arcade-style swings—EA went all in with the MLB license, so you got real teams, real stadiums, and even real player stats from the '95 season. The animations were surprisingly smooth for a Genesis game, with batters stepping into the box and pitchers winding up in a way that didn’t look totally robotic.

You could jump into a quick exhibition match, play through a full season (with stats tracked, thank god), or even create your own player—though let’s be honest, we all just maxed out the power slider and called it a day. The pitching had some depth too, with 12 different pitches to mess around with, though I mostly stuck with fastballs and prayed. And yeah, you could play against friends, but good luck convincing three other people to sit through a full game.

It wasn’t perfect, but for '96, it was about as close to real baseball as the Genesis got.
