Game Overview

Uchiiwai: Kyoudai Kamiwaza no Puzzle Game was a Japan-exclusive release for the original Game Boy, developed by I'Max and published by Yojigen. It arrived during the handheld's peak, a time when developers were still experimenting with the kinds of experiences that worked best on the small, portable screen, and this title offered a distinctly local multiplayer twist on the falling-block puzzle genre.

You and another player each control a brother, working on the same screen to clear a shared well of descending blocks. The main objective is to survive the ever-increasing speed by creating and clearing lines, but the real hook is the special combo system. By clearing lines in quick succession, you build up a meter that lets your character perform a special "kamiwaza" or divine technique; these can be used either cooperatively to help your partner or competitively to dump garbage blocks on their side. The pacing is frantic, demanding quick decisions on whether to assist or obstruct. It feels like a constant, joyful negotiation between partnership and playful betrayal.
