Game Overview
Ufouria is this weird, charming little NES game where you play as four oddball friends who wake up with amnesia after falling into a crater. You start as Bop-Louie—this round, bouncy guy—and have to track down the others, who all attack you on sight because they don’t remember who you are. First time I ran into Freeon-Leeon, I panicked because he just kept skating around on ice like some kind of penguin ninja.
The cool part? Each character you rescue adds their own movement quirks. Freeon can glide across ice and swim, Shades jumps higher, and Gil dives underwater. It’s one of those games where you’re constantly backtracking to open new paths once you’ve got the right buddy. The world feels huge for an NES title, full of hidden rooms and weird enemies (some of them just… floating heads?).
It’s janky in that old-school way, but there’s something really satisfying about piecing together the map with your weird little squad. Just don’t expect the story to make much sense—half the dialogue is nonsense, and the ending’s basically “congrats, you opened a door.” Still, it’s got this weirdly cozy vibe I keep coming back to.
