Game Overview

Ultra Seven on SNES is one of those games that feels like it was made specifically for tokusatsu fans. You jump right in as the silver-and-red hero, blasting aliens and kaiju with your signature beam attacks—there’s something weirdly satisfying about lining up a perfect shot while dodging a monster’s flailing limbs. The pixel art nails that old-school Ultraman vibe, and the soundtrack? Pure ‘90s action, all punchy synths and heroic fanfares.

It’s not the most complex side-scroller—no fancy combos or RPG elements here—but the controls are tight, and the boss fights actually feel like episodes from the show. Some of the kaiju are absolute units, filling half the screen while you scramble to avoid their attacks. I got stuck on the floating jellyfish thing for way too long before realizing I could just spam the beam when it opened its weak point.

If you’ve ever wanted to relive that childhood fantasy of suiting up as a giant hero, this is about as close as the SNES gets. Just don’t expect a deep story—it’s mostly here to let you punch monsters in glorious 16-bit.
