Unreal_Disk2 on the Amiga is one of those games that throws you straight into a weird, moody fantasy world. You play as this knight trying to rescue Princess Isolde from Polymorphic—who’s basically the king of edgy villain names. The mix of 2D sprites and early 3D terrain actually works better than you’d expect, especially when you’re sliding down snowy hills or scrambling up cliffs (just don’t look down).
Each level has these little environmental puzzles—sometimes you’re fighting shadow monsters, other times you’re just trying not to yeet yourself off a ledge by accident. Health doesn’t regenerate mid-level, so every hit feels punishing, but at least you get a full refill after surviving a stage. The scoring system’s oddly strict though—mess up too much and you’re stuck replaying until you scrape together enough points.
It’s janky in that very specific ‘90s way where the ambition slightly outruns the tech, but that’s part of the charm. You’ll either love it or throw the joystick across the room.
