Vampire Savior, known as Darkstalkers 3 in some regions, came out in arcades in 1997 from Capcom. It was part of that late 90s wave of 2D fighters, a time when developers were really pushing what the CPS-2 hardware could do with animation and speed. The game built on the foundation of its predecessors but introduced a much faster, more aggressive style of play.

You control one of several monstrous characters, like the vampire Demitri or the feline Felicia, with the goal of defeating your opponent in one-on-one combat. The game introduced new mechanics like the Dark Force system, which gives each character a unique temporary power-up, and the ability to break parts of the stage during fights. Matches are incredibly fast; you have to constantly be moving, attacking, and watching for an opening because the damage output is high and rounds end quickly. Landing a full combo and finishing someone off with a super move provides a sharp, satisfying thrill.
