Van-Van Car came out in 1983 as an arcade game from Namco. It was part of that early wave of maze games, where the screen was small and the action was focused. You didn't get sprawling levels or complex stories; it was just you, a car, and a lot of hopping.
You control a small car that bounces around a single-screen maze. Your goal is to clear each stage by hopping over every enemy on the screen. The main mechanic involves timing your jumps to land on foes, squishing them flat. If you miss, or land next to an enemy without crushing it, you lose a life. The game moves quickly, and the mazes get more crowded as you progress, demanding sharper reflexes. It feels satisfying to bounce around, picking off enemies one clean hop at a time.
