Vigilante Amiga came out in 1988, a side-scrolling beat 'em up from Irem and published by U.S. Gold. It was one of those straightforward action games you'd load up on the Amiga when you just wanted to hit something, a familiar arcade style brought home.
You control a leather-clad vigilante out to rescue his girlfriend from a cult. You move from left to right, punching and kicking through waves of thugs in five urban stages. Combat uses standing, crouching, and jumping attacks; you also perform a back attack by quickly tapping away and attacking. Each stage ends with a boss fight, and sometimes you have to rapidly tap buttons to break free when grabbed. The pacing is fast, the difficulty is decent, and it feels like a solid, no-frills brawler from the era. It's simple, sometimes repetitive, but satisfying when you clear a screen of enemies.
